An extended offer for the most vulnerable children

When the clock strikes 1:30 PM – we make pearls, play games, dance and much more…

Every day after lunch, Sealdah School is transformed into an After-School facility, where teachers and volunteers facilitate leisure activities that motivates, challenges and strengthens the children’s desire to learn. Examples of such activities include sports, games, movies, dance, drawing, handcraft. cooking etc. Our After-School care has a great influence on the development process, learning and well-being of the children. Since many of these children have usually never attended school before, they often have difficulty concentrating. We thus need to focus on reaching them through a funny approach to learning.

After three hours in class, the children, especially the oldest, enjoy getting out and burn off some of their energy. For this purpose, we have bought footballs, badminton rackets, balls and other outdoor games, for the children to play and have fun with. For indoor we have, among other things, bought a lot of pens, coloring books, face paint, jigsaw puzzles, boards and card games. We have also bought pearls, with which the children make fine bracelets and earrings, that are subsequently sold in Denmark for the benefit of this project.

Special occasions do not go unnoticed by in India, and at the After-School Care we strive to celebrate both national and international occasions. During Christmas, the children enjoy making Christmas decorations, and for Halloween they carve pumpkins, and spend a lot of time decorating these with glitter and paint etc. Holi, the great Hindu Color Festival, is very popular and brings out huge smiles on everybody. We celebrate this festival every year with powder in all kinds of colors, with which the children, teachers and volunteers cover each other from top to toe..

We spoil the children a little extra during weekends

Since many of the children do not have the opportunity to spend their weekends with family, our After-School Care stay open on Saturdays between 10 AM and 3 PM. On weekends we spoil the children a little extra, as they also deserve to enjoy weekends. Some of these children work at nights and therefore just wish to relax watching movies or rest on soft mattresses in cool air. Their rough childhood has not given them a lot of good memories, so we make sure to take them on trips to museums, the zoo, fun parks, water parks etc. - which is not only for the fun of it, but also for their ability to learn.

A round of cricket in the park is a nice way to burn some of the energy from class.

Our children and volunteers celebrate with colors, during the Hindu Festival, Holi.

Bracelets are produced for our ambassador Julie Pallesen, who sells these fine gift bags - to support the children.
